- A: Google, https://www.google.com/
B: This appeared because I am using Google Chrome. For Chrome, you got to Settings—> Under “Appearance” got to “Show Home Button—> Choose “New Tab Page” and enter in address bar
- Yes—Open the "View" menu, select "Text Size," and then select "Increase" You might want to do this if text is too small or difficult to read, if you have any disabilities which need accommodation, or if you have a personal preference that makes your web experience better.
- Google—it is currently my home page, so I only need to open the browser.
- A: About 8,830,000,000 results. Most of them are good results, but the later pages start to get into Web Design careers, web development, self-help books, and lots of advertisements. I would guess about %60 of results are helpful.
B: About 23,800 results. Much more accurate, I would say %90.
- There was more variance when the search engine had a specific difference (I.e. DuckDuckGo which doesn’t track or use history). I would use DuckDuckGo if I was searching for something that my previous search results might alter, or something that might hinder my future search results (mainly work searches or any projects outside my personal use).
- I would not classify it as a search engine. As their website states, it “is a computational knowledge engine for computing answers and providing knowledge; it is not a search engine.” Rather than providing web pages that might have an answer to your question like search engines, this site answers questions by computing the answer from externally sourced data.
- A: A metasearch engine uses web search results for a keyword or phrase from multiple search engines and puts it in one place.
B: Over 10,000 results. Most of the results showing up first are places to make your own free website.
C: I’d say about %60 are relevant (same as Google).
- Using Bing.com
A: Yes
B: Images, Videos, Maps, Shopping, News, Travel, MSN, Esports, TakeLessons, Office.
C: I searched for images of Shiba Inus (dog). About 800,000 results.
D: The Bing safe search is set to strict (this could be because I am using my Mason email) and it is clearly visible at the top of the screen.
- Creative Commons is a non-profit organization that provides access to creative works for educational purposes that can be edited and shared legally. This could be helpful to use some of their public domain tools or even get their help with copyright permissions if needed.
- I think how we tag our websites will be very important for people to find us and so when outside consumers use a search engine, our websites are easy to find and accessible. I also think, while we need to have a level of aesthetics, we need to make sure our websites are functional and easy to digest especially with consideration to those with disabilities.
